Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Lipitor contains 'atorvastatin', which belongs to a group of drugs called HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, or "statins."
Atorvastatin reduces levels of "bad" cholesterol (
low-density lipoprotein - LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of "good" cholesterol (
high-density lipoprotein -
HDL).
Hence, lipitor is used to treat
high cholesterol in blood.
It is recommended to take this medication by mouth with or without food once daily (either in the morning or evening).
The dosage is based on your medical condition, response to treatment, age and other medications you may be taking.
Based on the response to treatment, the dosage can be reviewed and reduced at a later date. Until then, you need to take the dose as it has been prescribed.
Strictly avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while using this medication as grapefruit or its juice can increase the amount of this medication in your bloodstream and aggravate side effects.
Do the necessary follow-up as advised by your doctor.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
