Suggest Dosage For Methylprednisolone Tablets

I wanted to ask i am prescribed to methylprednisolone tablets 16 mg. knowledge of some sideeffects due to this we are tapering the tab on 7 days interval. I want to know how is it safe to have half the dose or in other words taper without consulting a doctor.
