Dose of valsartan depends upon your blood pressure. Valsartan is initially started with 80 mg once daily, may be increased to 160 mg once daily if needed. Its maximum dose is 160 mg twice daily depending upon the level of control of BP.
So 160 mg twice daily is the normal dose if tolerated.
But you are unable to tolerate it.
How is your BP?? Controlled with 80 mg twice daily dose?? You have not written here.
The common side effects of valsartan are dizziness,
hypotension, hyperkalaemia,
neutropenia, viral infection, back pain,
arthralgia, fatigue,
abdominal pain, diarrhoea, cough, and
blurred vision.
What you can do here you should discuss with your doctor about the side effect of light headedness. He might change dose or change medicine. But do not change dose by yourself as it may lead to inadequate control of your BP and its dire repercussions. Adopt life style modifications also for control of BP. This is very important.
Advice
1. Continue valsaratn 160 mg twice daily
2. Consult your doctor for change of dose
3. Do not alter dose by yourself
4. Regular exercise at least 30 minutes for 5 days in a week. The best types of exercise for lowering BP include walking, jogging, cycling, swimming or dancing.
5. Eating a diet that is rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products and skimps on
saturated fat and cholesterol
6. Consume less salt
7. Avoid smoking, alcohol, coffee and caffeinated beverages
8. Lose extra weight if you are overweight and keep your
body mass index between 19 and 25. BMI is calculated by formula BMI = Weight in Kilograms / (height in meters x height in meters)
9. Reduce your metal stress because stress activates sympathetic system and increases BP
10. Measure your BP regularly
