Hi, I am a 74 yr old male with Hx of heart disease, having had double CABG at age 55, had the circumflex graft blocked and Right Coronary narrowed at age 68, when I had a RCA stent placed in the graft. Subsequently, at age 72, another stent placed in the Diagonal artery. My BP has always been good, usually 120/60 with heart rate always low at 55bpm; I ve always been active having been a runner and long Distance bike rider, I have a hereditary Hyperlipedimia, and my cholesterol is now excellent with taking Atorvastatin 80mg once daily, Plavix 75mg with 81 mg Aspirin daily, as I also had a Hx of TIA s in 2008, so my cardiologist and Neurologist advised me to stay on this regimen, My cardiologist has me on Ranexa 500mg once daily. I have been taking Metropolol Succinctate 25mg split in hal, once daily. Due to increase in haelthcare, I get some meds through VA. I am on two meds though a local pharmacy healthy saver plus plan. Because the Metropolol was more expensive, My cardiologist OK d me to go back to Atenolol25mg, but split that in half. I have been doing this, but the tablit is so tiny, and I cannot find info online if it is OK to split this med. I just found out from my VA pharmacy that I should not split the Ranolazine because it is time released. Now I am wondering if the Atenolol is time released and not OK to split. It is so tiny I can hardly see it when I do split it. What do you advise? Should I just ask to go back to Metropolol or can this med be available in a larger pill. He only wants me to take 12.5mg daily.
