Suggest Effects Of Macrobid Tablets During Pregnancy

I am 37 weeks pregnant and was told I have an infection when I went in today for a routine prenatal check up. Doc didn t specify what I had just put me on Macrobid. I m concerned about the risks to the baby since I am close to 38 weeks when it is aid to be harmful. I have no symptoms of a uti.

Hello!
Thanks for your query.
If you have no symptoms of UTI you dont need to use it because this drug should not be given to women in late pregnancy due to the potential risk of hemolytic anemia in the newborn, as the newborn has not yet developed the enzymatic pathways necessary for glutathione metabolism and the drug may cause oxidative damage to the red blood cells.
It has been shown that newborns of women given this drug late in pregnancy had a higher risk of developing neonatal jaundice.
