Suggest Home Remedy For Burning Sensation On The Back And Sides Of Tongue

For the past several days I have had a burning sensation on the back and sides of my tongue. It also feels like my tongue is sore. It is worse in the morning and only seems to feel better after I drink something very cold. It seems that some foods are even hard to swallow. I don't know if there is a home remedy or if I should make a doctors appointment, any advice?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms you are suffering from a condition known as BURNING MOUTH SYNDROME in which there is soreness, burning sensation and pain in tongue..

It can occur due to a few common causes like Nutritional Deficiencies ( iron, Vitamin B12 and folic acid), hormonal changes diabetes, stress, infection like thrush, dry mouth, allergies to any food, medicine or other things like toothpaste etc.
Nothing to worry consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and for Burning Mouth Syndrome he can advise you to take a multivitamin tablet daily for one month.
Treatment of underlying cause if any DISORDER is diagnosed will relieve..
Gargle with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine will help..
Suck on ice pops and gargle with cold water..
Avoid hot and spicy food and take soft and bland diet..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query the burning sensation on the back and sides of tongue is due to inflammation of papillae and taste buds of tongue. Need not to panic about it. It will resolve in 3-4 days. Take diet rich in fruits and green leafy vegetables. Take multivitamin tablets. Becasoule capsule is very effective for soreness on tongue. Maintain oral hygiene by brushing and flossing daily. Do tongue scraping as well lightly to prevent debris and microbes accumulation. Use listerine mouth wash. Apply desi ghee on finger and rub against whole tongue side. Visit oral physician if symptoms keeps on persisting. Keep drinking plenty of water.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
