Suggest Iron Supplements In Patients With Pancreatic And Liver Cancer
My husband is 56 years old and has been recently diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer. He is on Gemzar and Abraxzane for his chemotherapy and has been told he is slightly anemic. How do we build up his iron supply? His appetite is good and he already eats red meat, iron-enriched cereals, spinach, beans, etc. All the iron building foods we can think of plus a 65mg iron supplement tablet daily. What more can we do?
Hi, dear I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. First of all you should search the cause of anemia. Whether it is due to iron deficiency or vitamin B12 deficiency or folic acid deficiency. For that you should go for peripheral smear examination and anemia profile. Then take supplements according to deficiency. If severe deficiency then you can take injectable iron like iron dextran or iron sucrose. If vitamin B12 deficiency then you can take a course of injectable vitamin B12. Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
