General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, Thank you for your query.

Bad cough, fever, body ache and phlegm suggests infection. May be viral or bacterial. You and your son may need antibiotic if very severe. I usually prefer Penicillin group of antibiotics for my patients with similar condition.
The use of this antibiotic help in bacterial infections such as pharyngitis, tonsillitis, middle ear infections, and other respiratory infections.

If infection looks like viral, for simple cold and cough without fever, antibiotic is to be avoided.

Anti inflammatory drugs like acetaminophen or ibuprofen will help you. Also do salt water gargle three times a day. This will help you.

Hope this answered your query.
Regards.
