Hello, Ryan. Welcome to HCM and thank you for your question. I understand your concern.
As I can see, these episodes are probably really worrisome to you. The description you gave is more of an anxiety attack or panic attack, than from the palpitation itself. During panic or anxiety attack, there is a spike of
catecholamine (adrenalin, noradrenalin) levels in the body, due to their flush in the system. This flush is manifested by
rapid heart rate,
high blood pressure, cold extremities etc. If this is the case, I would suggest you to take a course of sedative treatment, with benzodiazepines for example, for 7-10 day. Please,
consult a psychiatrist or a clinical
psychologist about the frequency and the dosage of the drug. On the other hand, I would recommend you to do an EKG, to control if there is any organic reason for these palpitations to happen, although my index of suspicion is very low. I am recommending this for a more accurate exclusion of the possible cardiac origin of the problem.
I hope I was helpful with my answer. Wish you a good health.
Regards,
Dr. Meriton
