Suggest Medical Treatment For Overgrown Skin Under A Toenail

MY MIDDLE TOE ON LEFT FOOT IS PAINFUL. IT LOOKS LIKE EITHER THE NAIL HAS GOTTEN VERY THICK OR THERE IS A GROWTH UNDER THE NAIL WHICH IS CAUSING THE NAIL TO RAISE UP OFF THE NAIL BED. REALLY HURTS ABD BURNS BY THE END OF THE DAY. SKIN AROUND THE NAIL HAS BECOME VERY HARD AND CRUSTY.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history of ingrown toe nail, my treatment advice is -
1. Don't squeeze the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Wear loose footwear to avoid pressure on the affected part.
3. Only curative treatment is nail avulsion done by dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
