Suggest Medication For IPF

Thankyou very much,I have been diagnosed with Ipf and also have a thyroid problem,My husband just gave me his cold,Please can you advise me what over the counter meds I can take to aliviate the sniffles and the coughing so I can sleep...thankyou so very much....Gay mcgregor

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. For cold, you can take steam inhalation and do salt water gargling twice a day.
2. As, it is only upper respiratory tract infection, you can suppress cough with linctus codeine.
3. Anti histamines like cetrizine or loratidine and additionally decongestants can be used to alleviate sniffles.
4. If it persists for more than 2 days, antibiotic coverage will be necessary to avoid progression to lower respiratory tract infection, in view of your idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Correction of hypothyroidism necessary for infection to heal faster.
