I recently came down with posion oak on my face and left forearm. I ve been to a clinic and was given steroids and advised to use calamine lotion. With the past 2 days I ve noticed irritation to my genitals. I believe early on I spread it a little by itching while the allergen was still active on myself or my clothes. Is it ok to use cortisone 10 on my scrotum and penis, nay the tip?
Hello, Sir Welcome to healthcaremagic. I can certainly understand your concern. I have worked through your query in detail. Many symptoms are related to allergen poison oak which cause itching and rash. These symptoms require prevention of subsequent exposure to poison ivy. Oral antihistamine drugs and steroids are the mainstay of treatment. It's advisable to change the clothes and inner garments and subsequently send them for a laundry. Cold water baths are soothes your symptoms. Calamine lotion can be continued for another two weeks to counteract your symptoms.I generally prescribe oral pills of cetrizine and prednisone to my patients with such symptoms. Please check with your physician if he shares my view and if can prescribe these medications to you. Post your further queries if any. Thank you
