Suggest Medication For Chronic Depression

Hello. I have tried a number of antidepressants (effexor, paxil, and others I can t remember by name) and have had the same side effect....tiredness. My doctor has just given me samples of Pristiq, which I was ready to try until I found out how expensive it is. I know that shouldn t be a consideration, but we ve just retired and really don t need such a high expense. Our business was exhausting and I m wondering 2 things: Do you think with the business pressure gone that something like effexor would be worth trying again? Can you suggest something worth trying that isn t so expensive? I appreciate any input. Randy Beaulieu

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Anti-depressants can help patients with depression but combination therapy is very helpful including counseling or psychotherapy. SSRI is quite cheap medicine. You can try that one.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
