General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Gabapentin is a drug to use for chronic pain especially if it is a nerve related pain. Amitryptiline is another medication can be used for chronic pain if it is related to nerves or not.

Your doctor will need to decide on the use of any of these medications in your case and also will need to follow you up regularly because they are generally started in low dose and then increased gradually till you find the lowest dose that helps you. Regular monitoring of the side effects is necessary as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
