Suggest Medication For Continued Heavy Cough

Hi, I've had cold like symptoms with a heavy cough for a few days now and have started to get stomach pains from coughing, I think?..is there anything i can have apart from the normal cold/flu remedies and cough mixtures to ease this..i'm reluctant to go to the Drs as i don't want a wasted journey to be told to have paracetamol, hot drinks and keep warm...thanks
