I am not really that sick, just a little cough. I woke up this morning and lost my voice, what can I do , I also have only one vocal chord due to having my throat slit 19 years ago,my other one works harder, I guess. I need to talk as I take care of my father who has lung cancer. What to do?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Consult an ENT specialist and start on short course of antibiotics preferably Amoxcla for five to seven days. Do warm saline gargles and take antihistamines like Cetrezine for symptomatic relief.

You can also use expectorant cough syrups also.
Nothing much to worry as most of the cases resolve well with conservative measures.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
