Suggest Medication For Discolored, Pus Oozing Skin On Leg Due To Poison Ivy

I have poison ivy on my leg, it went from the normal rash, and now has turned a purple color and has been oozing puss for 1-2 days now Just keep cleaning it and adding topical antibiotic ointments? Or need to get a prescription for something stronger?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to a bacterial infection which is commonly related to the presence of pus. I recommend to clean the area with hydrogen peroxide and cover it with an antibiotic cream such as Neosporin cream. If the symptoms continue,I recommend to see your physician for a physical examination. Oral antibiotics may be needed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
