Hi ,I have a dryness on my scalp, sort of an exema.Up until last year I have never had any skin problems, but last fall I had a very itchy back accompanied by a rash. My dermatologist called it a nerve condition and gave me medication to treat it.,It has improved greatly but I have something like it on my scalp ,only in a few areas and it doesn t want to get better and I don t like using steroids. Please help,it is dry and itchy.Thank you!
From all of this you describe, it seems like lichen simplex, it is also called neurodermitis. It is important to understand that the itchy patch of skin is getting worse more and more due to scratching and rubbing.
Use emollients to relieve dryness and reduce desire to scratch if you don't want to use steroids creams but have to know that steroids creams is the best therapy if you use them only 2-4 weeks and not more. Occlusion therapy after application of a steroid cream may enhance efficacy.
Hope I have answered your query. Feel free to ask me if you have further queries.
