Suggest Medication For Getting Good Sleep

I have had a sleeping problem since I was 13. I sleep from 2 - 4 hours and I m wide awake. I m 22 years old now. I m used to sleeping on such few hours but I know I need help. I was in a facility from the ages 15-18 that gave me zyprexa and remeron... both didn t help me. This past new years I couldn t sleep for three days. The first night wasn t a big deal because it s just one night. The second night i took 3 shots of nyquil, which didn t do anything. the third night I smoked weed and drank liquor. I was still wide awake. Going on the fourth day without sleep, I took 4 seroquel pills, and only slept for 8 hours. I slept for 4 hours then woke up and fell asleep for four more. (8 hours altogether) I would of easily went onto 5 days. I need help sleeping and I don t know what to do because I m concerned I will recieve some pills that dont work for me, again.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us,

Insomnia can be treated with psychological intervention or with medications. The medications that you have taken i.e Zyprexa, Remeron and Seroquel, though cause drowsiness and sedation, they are not used to treat insomnia per say. There are many other medicines out there. Taking substances like alcohol and weed will increase the insomnia instead of relieving it. It appears that you have not been treated with the right medication.

It is advisable you visit a qualified psychiatrist for evaluation and appropriate treatment.

Hope your query is answered.
