Cardiologist 's  Response
Greetings. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.

First, a 51 year old with these blood pressure figures under one blood pressure-lowering agent is at least diagnosed with stage I hypertension (high blood pressure). I would, however, suggest a better control of hypertension and keep the blood pressure figures under 135/85 mmHg. To achieve this, I would also add a second blood pressure-lowering agent, and any drug can be used after you consult your cardiologist. I am referring to low dosages, or going to amlodipin (which you are already on) 10 mg a day.

Loprin is acetylsallicyllic acid. In the scenario where you also are hypertensive, it is an important drug in the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease. Therefore, I would recommend you to take 75 mg daily.

As for cholesterol levels, they are within normal range and no medical treatment should be started at this moment, at least. However, some changes in diet and lifestyle would be helpful, such as: 60 minutes a day of physical activity (walking, jogging, swimming); eating more fibres (green leafy vegetables and fruit up to 300 g a day); no raw or red meat, more fish and chicken or other poultry; no fast food; no alcohol more than 30 g ethanol a day (two beers or a glass of wine a day).

I hope I was helpful with my answer.

My best regards,
Dr. Meriton
