Suggest Medication For Itching,swelling And Pain In Ear

Hi I'm a female, age 23, and weigh 190 lbs. On 12/03/2011 I went to the doctor for itchy, swelling, and pain on both ears. He told me i had swimmer ears and prescribed Azithromycin 250mg pak tab, and Neo/poly/hc 1% otic sus.
I finished all the medicine like he told me to. The pain and swelling went away, and it hardly itches, even most of the scabs from my inner ear have gone away. Now the only problem i have is yellowish liquid coming out of my ears ( not puss ).
I put cotton balls to soak it up, my left ear has the most liquid coming out.
Is this normal, is it still healing, or do I still need more antibiotics to heal it? I forgot to mention I don't swim, this all happened because of q-tips.

It sounds like you have otitis externa. This is typically caused by a bacterial infection of the external ear. Even though this is usually benign, it can be extremely irritating. If you have poorly controlled diabetes, then this can be a serious medical problem and should be evaluated in person by a physician.

Here are the important things for you to do:
-Stop using Q tips.
-Keep your ear as dry as possible. Don't put cotton balls in unless you are planning to get in the shower/bath, in which case you should coat a cotton ball in vaseline gauze
-Antibiotics drops, first line therapy usually is a -floxin based drop with steroids. Extremely important to use this as directed (usually several times a day for a few weeks at a time)
-Usually oral antibiotics are not typically recommended
-If it has been going on for multiple years then your ear infection may be caused by a fungus and should be treated appropriately
