Over the last year and a half, our pediatrician has been monitoring our 4 yr old due to pain in his left leg and lower back. He complains about it at waking and after physical activity/play. I also noticed a change in his gait, not really a limp, just something different for him. She did xrays that all came back normal. However, she noticed a significant decrease in his range of motion in his left hip. She referred us to a pediatric orthopedic surgeon who did more xrays that all came back normal. He discovered that our son's left leg is one cm shorter than the other. After blood work that was 100% normal, we had an MRI that the ortho thought revealed a tethered cord. Prior to the MRI appt, he started having difficulty controling his bladder. Ortho referred is to a ped. neurosurgeon who is not convinced it is TCS as he did not see a mechanism of attachment. The neuroradiologist in his office said he was 50/50. A simple neurological test completed in his office revealed no numbness or loss of feeling in his lower extremities. He wants urodynamic testing done but the urologist did not schedule that for a month away. Meanwhile, we fear that if it is TCS, this delay could result in permanent bladder damage. Am I just being an impatient and worried parent or should I insist that the appt be sooner? The urologist's nurse reported that the neurosurgeon did not list it as an emergency on the referral.
