Suggest Medication For Persistent Cough With Clear Discharge
On Monday September 12th I had 20 teeth extracted surgically, I was under general anesthesia for this. By that weekend following, I had picked up a cold from a coworker that had me down for 3 days. Once the worst of that was over, I have had a persistant cough. Called my doctor that following week, they put me on tessalon pearls. That did not work. I went in to see the doctor and they put me on a week of Prednisone, two 40mg tablets daily for 5 days. That did not work either, I then was told to try Allegra, I had already tried Zyrtec and Clariton with no relief. I went yesterday got a chest xray and it was clear. This cough is horrible. Its almost as if I am producing too much saliva or something cause if/when I cough anything up its very thin and clear. Nothing discolored. Please help!
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have persistent cough with clear discharge which is due to chronic lung infection , acid reflux if cough is dry or bronchitis. The symptoms can also occur due to sore throat or allergic reaction like asthma . I would suggest you to visit pulmonologist once and get it examined. You should go for pulmonary function tests and x-ray chest as well to check exact level of infection. Start treatment only after proper prescription. Drink plenty of water. Take hot milk rich in turmeric as it will booster immunity. Also take half spoon of honey with warm water and eat light , non spicy. You need inhaled bronchodilators and antihistamine drug. You should use mist humidifiers in room. You should take cough expectorants as well. Take steam twice a day .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
