Suggest Medication For Recurring High Fever And Chills During Nights

Hi, I ve been running a fever of 100-104 since Wednesday night...I feel a little better during the days, but nights are really bad....shaking for hours. I ve been alternating taking Advil and Tylenol every 4 hours since Wed night, but I feel like I m not responding as well anymore....I just took 600mg of Advil an hour ago and my fever is still over 100. There is no urgent care clinic in the small town I m in, so my only option is the ER....I m wondering if this warrants a trip to the ER at this point? I m also coughing, have congestion but no vomiting.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
i appreciate your concern
Looking at your symptoms it seems to be a case of LRTI (lower respiratory infection) may be pneumonia
in my opinion you need a course of antibiotic like Levofloxacin 500 mg once daily to be taken under supervision of your doctor
meanwhile do some cold sponging with ice water
please do warm saline gargles and steam inhalation with a cough syrup or lozenges to relieve cough
Hope this helps you
Thanks for using Health care magic
wish you a good health
take care
