Suggest Medication For Severe Pain In Right Index Finger,knee And Ankle

my husband has pain in his right index finger, right knee and right ankle, he has shooting pain that wakes him in the middle of the night and leaves as quickly as it comes, hot to the touch and throbbing sensations. He is being treated for arthritis but the symptoms do not seem arthritic to me - he is 59 and otherwise very healthy and is very active. I have put hot compresses on his finger and I can feel the throbbing come right threw the cloth.
