Suggest Medication For Small Cut On Lip

Hello! My girlfriend had a motorbike accident and has a small cut on the outside of her lip and the inside. We have been to the pharmacy and they gave us Orrepaste . A gel advertised for ulcers containing Triamcinolone Acetonide . We live in Vietnam, and the pharmacies usually give you as many drugs as possible and hope one of them works! The cut is only small, although the one on the outside is still bleeding a little. What is the best way to avoid infection? Should we apply the gel? Thanks in advance, Will

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain if there is a cut on the lip caused by road traffic accident there must have been more lacerations too over other body parts..
The first thing that should be done is to get a Tetanus Toxoid injection taken by consulting a general physician..
Next if the area over the lip is still bleeding the physician might put stitches if required..
For preventing infection a short course of antibiotics like Amoxicillin or Ciprofloxacin can be advised..
Applying Orrepaste that is a steroid based paste is not sufficient and you should also apply an antibiotic ointment like Triple antibiotic ointment or any other available with your local pharmacist should be taken and applied over the lip after cleaning with betadine solution..
If there is pain and swelling on the lip anti-inflammatoy painkiller like Ibuprofen can be taken..
