Suggest Medication For Swelling On The Right Side Of The Throat

I seem to have a really swollen gland on the right side of my face/throat. The pain is going up into my ear and has been getting worse throughout the day. I have been taking advil which helps temporarily but not for very long. Is there anything else I can take to help with the pain and discomfort?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Swelling of gland is most likely to be due to infection..
Pain in ear can be a radiating pain from the gland..
So my suggestion is to consult an Emergency room and get evaluated.
A clinical examination and an x ray can be done to rule out the exact cause of the infection.
You can be advised a course of antibiotics like Amoxicillin and clavulanate combination and continue taking anti inflammatory painkillers like Advil.
Also do alternate warm and cool compresses over the swelling.
Take soft meals.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Honey Arora
