Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son had a cold 3 weeks ago, and was diagnosed with strep. Since then he has had a cough that will not go away. I have tried every cough medicine his doctor recommened, salt gargles, and cough drops, and nothing is helping. Is there anything else I can do to help him because his cough is getting worse and his throat sore.
hello! I had gone through your query and understand your concern. Strep throat is suspected by a sore, red throat, sometimes with white spots on the tonsils. Since he has a streptococcal infection he need to take an antibiotic to treat this. Despite strep throat you son might have an respiratory infection probably a bacterial infection secondary after a viral respiratory infection ( since he has gone through a cold).
These infection should be treated with antibiotics and if not his symptoms will get worse. I suggest to consult a pediatrician for diagnosis and treatment. He will do a physical examination to your son conforming Strep throat (he also can perform a rapid strep test ) and after auscultate your son's lung with stethoscope he can decide If he need to take antibiotic or not.
Hope I was able to help you. Wish a quick and complete recovery to your son. Dr.Rovena
