Suggest Medications For Cough In Elderly Patients With COPD
I am a 75 year old woman.. history of breathing problems..have COPD..I have a very hard time at night with coughing. I bring up a little but the cough is terrible. It also happens during the day but not as much. Have tried many different syrups but nothing seems to work. Any ideas for me.
Thanks for your question on HCM. I advice you to get done chest x ray first to rule out lung infection. As lung infection is most common cause for COPD worsening and coughing. If Infection is there than you need antibiotics. You can also start oral mucolytic and expectorant drugs like N Acetyl Cystein (NAC),bromhexine and ambroxol. They will clear the thick mucus and make it more softer which can be easily expectorate. Chest physiotherapy and deep breathing exercise will also help you in clearing secretion. Since all these are prescribed medicines, you should first consult pulmonologist and discuss all these.
