Suggest Methods Of Maintaining A Healthy Liver

Hi I have received reply from dvla regarding my medical, as I refused to give breath speciman last year. They say need more information from my GP, I duly contacted him and he has assured me that I should get my driving license back. Apparantly my liver gamma count was 70 I am not sure about other results . I am very worried now that dvla will refuse my driving application I am a 62 year old widow and lead a very active life I do not smoke but enjoy a couple of glasses of red wine. I regard myself as fit and work part time. Losing my licence has made life very hard as I live on my own. I just want to move on with my life and I am losing sleep now terrified I will not get driving license back in September help !!!!

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.

It seems like you have fatty liver and there are two main types of fatty liver disease so treatment depends on this: Alcoholic liver disease and Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. You can get alcoholic liver disease from drinking lots of alcohol. It can even show up after a short period of heavy drinking, other causes are obesity and hepatitis B and C.
If you have alcoholic liver disease and you are a heavy drinker, quitting is the most important thing you can do. Talk to your doctor about how to get help. If you don't stop you could get complications like alcoholic hepatitis or cirrhosis.
Even if you have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, it can help to avoid drinking. If you are overweight or obese, do what you can to gradually lose weight -- no more than 1 or 2 pounds a week.
Eat a balanced and healthy diet and get regular exercise. Limit high-carb foods such as bread, grits, rice, potatoes, and corn. And cut down on drinks with lots of sugar like sports drinks and juice. This should lead to improvement. You should repeat your liver markers in 3-4 weeks.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
