Suggest Opinion On Travel Due To Breakage Of Ribs

my husband was on vacation in Oregon to visit his kids, he fell broke 5 ribs but punctured his lung, they believe that they are taking out the tube tomorrow when will iot be safe for him to fly home? The doctor there said he wasn't sure and to ask the airlines and they have no restrictions on that.
