Suggest Possible Knee Replacement Surgeries.

My mother has total degeneration of cartilage and suffers from osteo arthiritis. She has been advised total knee replacement by the doctors. I would like to know whether there is any alternative to the knee replacement surgery. She is 64 and has thyroid problem at present.
