Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello,
I read carefully your concern.
The result you reported are suggestive for underactive thyroid or hypothyroidism. The most common cause of it at your age is an autoimmune destruction of the thyroid gland and as a result it doesn't produce enough hormone.
At this point you have to take the hormone orally on order to maintain normal hormonal balance.
Once the destruction of the thyroid gland has occurred it can not be recuperated, that is why the only thing remained to do is to take the hormone orally.
Until now there is no diet that can recuperate the autoimmune destruction of the gland or prevent further destruction.
So no diet would help for this problem.
Hypothyroidism predisposed weight gain, so after 6- 8 weeks of treatment with levothyroxine you will see a slight weight loss. This is due to correction of the thyroid hormones.
Hope i was useful.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
