Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. The risk of Down syndome can be detected by serum screening (Double marker at 11-14 weeks gestation) and NT/NB ultrasound at the same gestational age.If the risk is found high, then the amniocentesis can be done to confirm the fetal karyotype. There is no reason to terminate the pregnancy without confirming the diagnosis.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you both good health.
