Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have like a sprain in my thumb, now lasting about 3 weeks. Its not real bad but lingering. When I go to pick a child up under their arms and my thumb is spread from my fingers can t do it very painful. What can I do to make this better? YYYY@YYYY
You can spray diclofenac containing solution over sprain part to get relief from pain and for soothing. I suggest you take a five day course of anti-inflammatory drugs like brufen or chymotrypsin for seven days.
Don't strain the affected thumb more by applying splint to that. Ice wrapped cloth also can be applied.
You can Consult a nearby orthopedic surgeon for detailed evaluation. You can upload a photo of the x-ray to comment further.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
