Hello dr. I had pimples bt that was stopped bcz of retino A 0.05. But then i got pregnant n dr.told to discontinue. So i discontinued. Now i have 8mnths baby n m still feeding baby. Problem is i got pimples again...n heard that retino cream should not be use if u r feeding. Is it true? Only that cream suitable on my face... Is it ok to start again? If yes then how to start? I started with 0.025 then 0.05. Plz help me n give me suggestion...want to start this cream again bt plz when i can start?
The cream that you inquire about contains tretinoin, which is an excellent topical antiacne ingredient. Tretinoin is a vitamin A derivative and just like another Orally administered Vitamin A derivative in acne like Isotretinoin is usually avoided during pregnancy even though tretinoin is a topical preparation unlike Isotretinoin. The reason retinoids are avoided in pregnancy is that they are teratogenic and cause fetal defects. However, there is no restriction to its use in breast feeding mothers and therefore you can safely restart it again. I suggest you to restart with a lower strength of Tretinoin because it is an irritant and therefore can cause redness and peeling specially at the start of therapy.
