Suggest Remedies For Back Pain After Draining Cyst

Hi, my sister had surgery to drain a cyst that was causing back pain and symptoms associated with irritable bowel syn. However, since the surgery, the pain is still there, she s been having a period for about a month and a lot of back pain. The Dr. told her the cyst was attached to bladder, and intestines so they weren t able to remove it only drain it. So she was ordered amytriptiline for back pain. She just started taking it and she feels like a zombie. I know it s a low dose she is taking, but I was wondering if this is ok?

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, if she is having issues of severe sedation after amitriptyline, she may need alternative analgesics.

If OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen are not able to control the pain, more potent analgesic like tramadol or nerve pain suppressants like gabapentin may be used.

Pain medicine specialist may be consulted to discuss options like nerve block etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
