Suggest Remedies For Bad Cold And Ear Pain

I HAVE HAD A BAD COLD FOR ABOUT A MONTH NOW. DURING THIS TIME, I DEVELOPED AN EAR ACHE. I WENT TO THE DOCTOR TWICE, WAS TOLD COLD IS VIRAL, CANNOT GIVE ANTIBIOTICS. CHECKED EAR TWICE AND EAR IS PERFECTLY FINE. WAS TOLD TO TAKE ZYRTEC D OR ALLEGRA D UNTIL COLD SUBSIDES. I HAVE TAKEN ZYRTEC FOR THE ENTIRE MONTH, BUT JUST STARTED ZYRTEC D TWO DAYS AGO. IT SEEMS TO TAKE AWAY SOME OF THE EAR PAIN AND FULLNESS I FEEL, BUT NOT ALL THE WAY. AM I JUST BEING IMPATIENT AND KEEP TAKING MORE ZYRTEC D. I MEAN I HAVE BEEN TO THE DOCTOR TWICE, AND BOTH TIMES SHE HAS GIVEN ME NOTHING EXCEPT A STEROID PACK (SOMETHINE LIKE PREDNISONE BUT BEGINS WITH AN M AND YOU TAKE PILLS FOR 5 STRAIGHT DAYS).COLD AND SOME EAR PAIN STILL PRESENT. ANY SUGGESTIONS:

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As per your complain there is a possibility that you have developed a sinus infection along with fluid behind the eardrum that can occur secodary to cold and post nasal drip..

There can be blockage in eustachian tube that can lead to ear fullness and pain..

I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like x ray, MRI, otoscopy etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

You can be advised a course of antibiotics, oral as well as nasal decongestants like Xylometazoline nasal sprays.
Along with it steam inhalation and chewing chewing gum can help..
In case of no improvement in 15 days surgical drainage by making a small incision through the eardrum can help..

As of now to relieve pain you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
