Suggest Remedies For Blister On Toe Causing Purple Discoloration And Irritation

I had a blister on my toe. It popped on its own. Apparantly it caught infection. Foot was red and swollen half way, including where the blister was. Very painfall to walk. I went to Podiatrist 3 days ago and he gave me a strong antibiotoc, Sulfamethoxazole, taken every 12 hours. The redness on foot has gone away. Now the toe has become purplish and irritated around the scar of the blister. The toe is 2/3 swollen and it is still painful to walk. I feel some strange discomfort in ankle and leg. Should I definitely get IV antibiotic treatment? Is the purple toe normal effect of walking on the toe? What else can I do to get healed?

Hi
Hope this message finds you in good health.
I have gone through your complaints and understand your concern.
I generally see many cases like this at my clinic.I give them a splint,rest,analgesics,anti-inflammatory tablets and ice pack till the swelling reduces to some extent. Then i get an xray and if necessary an mri done to find out the extent of the lesion.

In your case, there are 3 possibilities-
POSSIBILITY 1. Soft tissue infection- soft tissues in the surrounding area might be infected that might be resistant to the antibiotics you are taking.

POSSIBILITY 2. allergic lesions- it might be an allergy to some sort of material that seems to be causing the symptoms. anti allergic drugs should help in such cases.

POSSIBILITY 3.gout- raised uric acid levels in blood is known to cause such blisters.any other blood derangements also may be the root cause. U should get a detailed blood profile done to find out the exact cause.

Even if it is either of the above 3,all have a good prognosis and you should eventually get back to normal in coming few days.Nothing to worry about.Do get back to me after ur blood and other reports are ready.

I hope your question has been answered.
