Suggest Remedies For Blood In Stool And Diarrhea

My 69 year old mother has been sick since Monday of this week -- diarrhea with blood and a pounding behind the ears that sounds like someone pounding nails at the neighbors house. She hasn t been eating much or getting out of bed. She says she feels better today, but I m not sure that this isn t something that should still be checked out. What s your advice?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think you should send a sample of her stool to lab to get a few tests done:
- stool analysis
- stool culture and sensitivity testing
We should rule out bowel infections first and perhaps any tumoral issues.

Check for hemorrhoids.

The pounding behind the ears is due to dehydration. Keep her well hydrated:
- drink more water with oral rehydration salts
- soups, tea
- BRAT diet (banana, rice, apple sauce, toast)
- take peptobismol or tasectan for diarrhea
- probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora

Wish fast recovery.
