Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I recently had a cat sink 5 of its claws into my calve and cause puncture wounds. Initially, the areas were sore, but I was able to be mobile. With in 24 hours though, my entire calve muscle is sore to a point that its highly painful to put any weight on it and, the entire area is very swollen/tight and stiff. I ve been icing it and keeping it elevated today, which helped temporarily, but it goes back to being pretty painful not too long after icing.
It can be due to local wound infection and may need antibiotics like amoxicillin or coamoxiclav as well as local antiseptic cleaning with pyodine etc. Using OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can help with pain as well as inflammation. If cat had not been vaccinated you may need to have anti rabies vaccination too as well as tetanus shot for booster.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
