hi, i have understood your concerns..
the symptoms which u have mentioned here can be a part of emerging
dementia, which is known as behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia [BPSD], i want to ask you few questions.like
1. whether for last 1 or 2 years she has started forgetting things? for which she would blame the family members?
2. whether she forgets the names of relatives?
3. whether she remain confused most of the time?
4. whether her thinking process has slowed down?
5. whether she is not able to take proper hygiene?
6. whether she is not able to wear clothes on her own?
7. whether she forgets the rooms and bathroom in the home even?
8. whether she forgets when she had breakfast and meal? asking repeatedly for it?
9. whether she forgets recent events?
these all re the symptoms of dementia.. if these are present then u shud go for neuropsychiatrist consultation for proper evaluation and investigations like imaging of the brain and blood investigations to rule out reversible causes of dementia..
if, above symptoms are not present and her memory is good, then this can be a par of late life
depression, which can be treated with drugs..but it is always difficult to treat then a depression in adult life..
in my opinion u shud go for evaluation for dementia first before starting any drug and when dementia is ruled out u can give the following medication i m suggesting here:
tablet. fostera (combination of
fluoxetine [20mg] +
olanzapine [5 mg] ) once at night, if the combination is not available then u can give her both the drugs separately..
for disturbed sleep i ll suggest u to give sedating
antipsychotic drug in ow dose, like tablet.
quetiapine [seroquel 25 mg]at bed time..this will induce sleep without predisposing her to delirium and falls..
do not give him benzodiazepines or othe
hypnotic medications..
i hope u ll find this advice helpful.. best luck..
