Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
When I swallow food, it feels like there is a tiny bit stuck at the top in the back if my throat, mainly on the right side. I have tried to put my fingers into my throat to dislodge it, but when I do, there doesn t seem to be anything stuck, just some lumps. The feeling of something being stuck is still remains after I have tried to use my fingers. What is this and how can I fix it?
It would be best for you to be seen to determine the source of the obstructed sensation. The different causes of obstruction include:
(1) GERD- reflux
(2) Physical blockage or mass present
(3) Abnormal structure of the esophagus
(4) Esophageal spasm- clenching of the esophagus can sometimes occur
(5) Esophageal web- webs can sometimes be present in the esophagus as well.
It can also be related to changes in the throat before reaching the esophagus. You may want to see an ENT (ear nose and throat specialist) doctor for an assessment and treatment. The treatment would depend on the cause found.
I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Michelle Gibson James
