Suggest Remedies For Hearing Loss Post An Injury

I screamed loudly in a car with windows closed. My friend who was with me now has pain in her ears. They feel warm inside and sound is muffled. Occasionally, she hears popping sounds. She went to audiologist and her test was normal but she is afraid she still has hearing loss as she had a keen sense of sound all her life. Did I ruin her ears? After 10 hours her ears still hurt. Thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

1. You need to get an Impedance Audiometry (Tympanometry) to rule Eustachian Tube Dysfunction or a Patulous Eustachian Tube. This would worsen tinnitus, distort sound quality and cause an echo in the ears. An audiologist can do these tests.

2. A flexible Fiberoptic Nasopharyngoscopy (FNPS) should be done by an ENT Specialist to look for velopharyngeal insufficiency that causes a hypernasal voice (rhinolalia aperta). The palate movements should be checked for any change. Lower cranial nerve testing should be performed by a Neurologist.

3. Upload these test results for further treatment options.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
