Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
Your BP values can be interpreted as such:
- upper value is 175-180 and normally should not be above 140 mmHg (if you have
diabetes than this should not be above 135 mmHg).
- bottom value is 99-100 and normally should not be above 90 mmHg (if you have diabetes this should not be above 85 mmHg)
By these values you have stage 2
hypertension (stage one up to 160/99 and stage 2 up to 180/109, stage 3 is above 180/110)
At stage two it is recommended to have at least 2 BP medications and do lifestyle changes to help with BP control. These would be:
- Diet with less salt
- Diet with less calories to loose weight
- Diet with not much fat or sugar but fruit and vegetable, avoid fried or junk food.
- Exercise average 30 minutes every 2 days. Try to walk as much as you can.
- Avoid
smoking and alcohol
It might take several months to find the medications that are good for you and their doses so I would say that if you have no symptoms and you are having regular visits with the doctor to check BP and decide on treatments this is all you need to do at the moment other than the lifestyle changes mentioned.
I hope this is helpful to you and anwsers to your questions
Best regards
