Thank you for your query
Strep. throat needs to be confirmed and treated with antibiotics and other symptomatic treatment . If the fever does not settle with medications, call his
pediatrician right away to get another prescription for tylenol (
acetaminophen) which is a fever reducing medication.
Strep. throat can rarely cause complications, especially if left untreated like
glomerulonephritis &
rheumatic fever. Rashes may also be present that feel coarse like sandpaper.
If your grandson develops fever which does not respond to medicines, or is unable to eat has severe throat pain, is very drowsy,
reduced urine output, has seizures, go to the ER right away.
Otherwise, see his pediatrician ASAP to diagnose and treat appropriately.
In the meantime, sponge him or give him luke warm baths to reduce fever.(do not apply ice cold water on his body). Hydrate him well, a few sips (even a teaspoon full) of water or soup every few minutes makes a huge difference. Give light , bland, smaller and frequent meals.
Keep him home till he recovers. Hope this helps. Wish you both good health
