Suggest Remedies For Itchy And Irritated Vagina With Light Brown Discharge

Never happened before... vagina suddenly became itchy, then the next day quite red inside (as in irritation or infection). I first tried a vinegar douche and got some sort of discharge that looks like sheets of skin (looks like when you sunbrn and sheets peel off), no odor, no blood, vry slight brown color. I have an IUD in for 2 yrs. and haven t had sex in awhile. Seems to be getting better after a douche once a day for a couple days. Just wondering if I should I be slightly concerned or very concerned? maybe just a period without the blood? (age 53)

Hi,

Noted your history about having IUD for 2 years, no sex recently, developed itchy vagina with redness and some discharge.
With the history that you have provided the following may be one of the reasons for your symptoms and findings:
Vaginitis due to changed acid/alkali balance or bacterial flora.
Development of fungal infection.
IUD causing infection in uterus which in turn cased vaginitis.
Cervicitis or cancer.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult a gynecologist and request for a proper per-speculum examination and PAP smear.
Rule out diabetes.
Further management as per the findings.
Take probiotics.
You may need a course of an antibiotic, anti fungal and metronidazole.
Local management as per the guidance of your Gynecologist.
