Hi.
Noted the history about a 50 year old lady having reduced hearing from left ear, one Doctor said about having tumor and another Doctor said this to be due to wax.
The commonest causes of reduced hearing are impacted wax causing blockage to the sound waves and this is called air conduction hearing loos.
Another reasons are anything like tumor or so causing the same effects.
Other reason is problems related to ear drum, the smallest bones chain behind ear drum like
Otosclerosis.
Problem with internal ear like cochlear problems.
The reduced function of
vestibulocochlear nerve.
The brain centers of hearing and so on.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult an ENT Surgeon.
Get the wax removed.
If tumor or so he will treat and operate you as necessary.
Once this is clear then go for
Audiometry.
If there is mixed
hearing loss then go for MRI and CT scan study for reduced hearing to know the exact cause.
Hearing aid then may be needed.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
