Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I ve been suffering with muffled hearing for years now. When I first get up in the morning, my hearing is fine but after about 10 minutes of standing up, they become blocked. It isn t until about 5pm or 6pm in the afternoon, that my normal hearing returns. I have been to an ENT and he explained that I have water retention in my sinuses. He said it was a minor problem but it is really affecting the way I communicate with people. It s like I m underwater. I can t really tell how loudly or softly I m talking and my own voice echos inside my head. I m using Avamys nasal spray everynight but it doesn t seem to help clear it up. If I lay down throughout the day or turn my head upside down, the blocked feeling goes away within seconds but returns as soon as I m upright again. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have muffled ears which is due to ear infection which seems to be due to fungal infection, wax build up, fluid accumulation, Eustachian tube dysfunction and systemic disease infection of inner ear.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles and take steam twice a day and apply warm dry compresses to external ear. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis. Doctor may examine by otoscopic means to check level of infection. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin at least for a week along with decongestants. Put Otogesic ear drops. You should go for audiometric testing as well to check hearing level.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
