My husband has COPD,had many years. Last week he had X-rays of lungs.....He had SLR been told years ago he has Asbestos &lost 20%of his lung. These X-rays he saw and w technician said he could see the Asbestos, also his lungs were BLACK! He and I both smoke and are having pulmonary tests done in a week. My question is, since he s got skin cancer,an enlarged prostate and all this, am I correct in assuming that he has Cancer? He wheezes bad, short of breath.... But the Dr. made the tests marked urgent....

Hello,

Asbestosis may present like breathlessness, dry cough and wheezing. These patients also prone for tuberculosis. But I don't know why still you and your husband smoking together even when you know it will aggravate the condition.

In few cases at base of lungs may got asbestosis or epithelioma formation and restricted lung disease. So avoid smoking, avoid exposure to asbestos and drink plenty of water and use bronchodilators.

No permanent remedies for COPD. the only way is lung transplantation. If symptoms not improved please consult your pulmonologist he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
